DeedQuest History and Vision

DeedQuest was born out of frustration. When we started investing in real estate in 2001, we were dismayed at how difficult it was to hunt down even the most basic information required to make a responsible real estate investment. If it existed at all, relevant information was scattered over the Web. We spent hours retrieving information like rental rates and property tax rates. And then of course, there was the time consuming step of searching for properties and scribbling some numbers on the back of a napkin to see if the properties we were looking at were even worth a closer look. In the age of the Internet, the entire process was entirely too difficult.

Years later, there were certainly more websites for real estate investors, but they had a common theme: "get rich quick". A wonderful idea, mind you, but not a very sound investing strategy. These sites offered little in the way of qualitative information or usable tools. For investors like us -- ones who liked solid numbers, real location facts, and guidance from legitimate professionals -- these sites offered little more than an occasionally good how-to article. But nothing to support the actual process of investing in real estate.

So finally, the founders said, "Hey, we know a lot about technology and good deal about real estate. Let's do something about this." Thusly, DeedQuest was born.

The founders -- one a real estate attorney, the other a technology expert, both real estate investors -- set out to build a site that would streamline the information gathering process so that investors could focus on making smart real estate decisions rather than tracking down data fragments. They imagined a place that would be absolutely and unequivocally dedicated to investor, a place unsullied by advertiser influence or real estate agent/builders/lenders boosterism. They envisioned a place that would be unique on the Web, one that married the best of Web 2.0 community features with real data and powerful applications, because after all, real estate investing is about location and about properties and about numbers and about people.

The DeedQuest you see today is the realization of that vision. The DeedQuest of tomorrow will be a continuation and extension of that vision. Stay tuned!
